NEW HORIZON LEARNING CENTER

Meet Our Director, Robyn Gomez

I am Mrs. Robyn Gomez (Marsan) and I have the pleasure of being a part of the New Horizon’s Learning Center as their Director.  I am originally from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, where I first developed my love for the development, enhancement and education of children. At seventeen years old, I moved to Palm Beach County whereby I studied at PBCC and received my Associates Degree in Applied Science in Human Services and Counselling. My desire to further my education did not stop there, but rather sent me into the path of Psychology. I furthered my education in FAU, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Psychology. The relationships I established within my educational journey, allowed for me to begin working for the Mental Health Association of Palm Beach, and work with children within the public system that were potentially “at risk”. I worked within this program as a mentor, then eventually a counsellor in the aftercare program. As life would have it, I eventually met and married my husband, which guided me back to Trinidad, where I took the opportunity to further my interest in teaching and education. I took time while working in a business corporation as their Human Resource Manager, to get my certification in Teaching Children with Dyslexia and a certification in the Lindabell-Mood program, Visualization and Verbalization (for cognitive thinking, comprehension and thinking). In Trinidad, I was fortunate to start my own private practice after completion of my continued studies, and started a program called NCLB (No Child Left Behind), which is founded from the RTI Learning model, that a child can be integrated into the system through this approach. My program was heavily based on The Explode the Code Program, and benefits of this system was very evident in the clients I worked with over the past seven years. During this period, I was blessed with three children, who have only served to reinforce my love and patience for children, development and education. My journey led me back to the US, Cooper City in July 2015, whereby I became heavily involved as a parent and substitute teacher at New Horizon Learning Center. My relationship here evolved as I was the literacy coach and then Lead teacher in the 2-year old classroom. I decided to earn my Director’s Credential, as I hoped that I would eventually be able to run the operations of the school. As faith would have it, I am now exactly where God and I intended.
