Pastor Patty
Senior Pastor

I am a 4th generation Florida native. I was born in Pinellas County, on the West Coast of Florida, but my dad was in the Air Force, so I grew up all over the Eastern United States. I graduated from the University of South Florida in 1975 and from Duke Divinity School in 1979. This is my 30th year in the ministry and I have served churches in Titusville, Clearwater, Branford, Tallahassee, Chattahoochee, Hudson and Jupiter. I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for 30 years. We met at Duke and crashed two cultures together as Jeff is Pennsylvania Dutch. Jeff is ordained in the United Church of Christ, but is now disabled due to a neurological disorder and is unable to work. We have two daughters. Rachel, 24, is a forensic scientist working at FDLE in Tallahassee. She and her husband, Bryan, who is a policeman for Capital Police, have just bought their first house. Cathy, 19, is a student at FAU in Boca Raton, and lives on campus during the school year. Our other three family members include a dog, Timone, and two cats, Bagheera and Whitby. I love being a pastor. I enjoy getting to know the church and the individual stories of her members. I love to read (usually crime dramas), walk, and do counted-cross stitch. My prayers are with all of you, and I look forward to meeting you.
God bless you,
Pastor Patty

I am truly blessed to be at New Horizon Learning Center as its head administrator. My professional experience as an educator began long ago as a classroom teacher for middle school at both Parkway and Pines Middle Schools in Broward County. I had just graduated from DePauw University in Indiana, married Doug and moved to South Florida from Ohio. I became active at New Horizon U.M.C. first as a Sunday school teacher and then in the administration of the volunteer educational ministry of the church while I stayed at home to raise our two sons. After experiencing a call to full-time ministry, I attended St. Thomas University and finally graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (IL) in Christian Education in 2000.
I was ordained a United Methodist Deacon in 2002. I have been a children’s minister, pastor of my own church and the small groups and education pastor of New Horizon. Last year, the church leadership and I felt that God was calling me to head up the Learning Center. I have very much enjoyed my time here and look forward to a long tenure as the director of the school.
I am exceptionally proud of the staff we have at the Learning Center. Our teachers and assistants are not only professional educators, but are also loving and passionate about teaching young children. It is a joy to work with them each day. I love to go around the school and get and give hugs to all who want them. It’s my “grandma wannabe” time with the children. Our school is small enough that all the teachers know all the children and the parents connect with each other through school activities and our very active PTO. It’s a whole lot like “family.”
When I’m not at the school, I love to play a round of golf on a beautiful day or to be hunkered down at home with a good book when the weather is not so nice.

I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BA in Economics. I worked for 15 years in a professional business environment and felt God’s call to ministry. I began my own business 6 years ago in Health and Wellness and answered my call to ministry on a volunteer basis. I have worked in NHUMC’s Sunday School Program as Sunday School Superintendent and as the Education Chair Person for the past 6 years. Also, I have worked with our Youth Program and taught Sunday School for High School and Middle School for the past 5 years. I also started a Middle School and High School Girls group meeting monthly 2 years ago called “It’s A Girl Thing”. I have a passion for children and youth and I love our kids!
My personal mission is to impact the lives of youth on a daily basis helping them to know and trust in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I develop programs and environments that help young people establish and explore a solid faith in Christ. I share my faith and experience so that as disciples furthering the kingdom of God they can have an example to duplicate. I believe my purpose is to share God’s love and word with preteens, teens, and young adults to help develop confident Christian leaders who lead by faith.

It is with great pleasure and pride that I am the Director of Children’s Ministries here at New Horizon! I am a graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have 11 years of teaching experience and am certified by the state of Florida to teach grades 1-6, as well as Mathematics for grades 5-9. In addition to these certifications, I am a certified preschool teacher and the former Outdoor Learning Center teacher of New Horizon Learning Center.
The past eight years I’ve held my greatest, most challenging, yet most rewarding teaching position to date. I have been a stay at home mom to my three children: Cameron, Katy, and Kelsey. My husband Chris and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for 20 years, married for ten. Originally from Tampa, we moved down to South Florida for Chris’ job as a network engineer with Black Box Communications in Miami. We joined NHUMC in 2003 and love being members here as well as growing closer to God each day with you!

Marc McKay
Fellowship
Director |
I was born and raised in Ontario Canada. My mother, father, sister, and I moved to Florida when I was eight years old. I am currently attending Broward College, majoring in pre optometry with plans to transfer to Nova University to continue my studies.
I am a quiet, laid back individual who loves watching movies, boxing matches, and listening to soothing music.
I have been a member of New Horizon for eleven years. I have had the privilege of seeing this congregation grow and unfortunately witness some of the members leave. I am honored to be involved with this church as the new youth fellowship director. I will be in charge of planning and coordinating youth trips and special events; as well as becoming more involved with the current and future youth members.
Please keep me and the other student ministers in your prayers,
Marc
