CHRISTIAN
EDUCATION
The
basic principles of Christianity are incorporated throughout our
curriculum. This includes scripture verse of the week and prayers
before snack and lunch. Once a week, our pastors lead the children
in chapel service. It is a time of joyful worship with songs of
praise and Bible stories. Chapel provides a wonderful introduction
to church for the children. Parents are welcome to attend our Chapel
service.

CURRICULUM
The
New Horizon Learning Center at is a part of the total educational
ministry of New Horizon United Methodist Church. It is a developmental
appropriate program in which each child may progress and be challenged
at his or her own level.
The
environment enables children to foster active exploration and interaction
with adults, other children, and materials. This interactive process
leads to learning. Our curriculum encourages a child's physical,
emotional, social, cognitive and spiritual growth through an integrated
approach to learning. In addition to our classroom curriculum, the
center provides instruction in music, Spanish, outdoor learning,
and religion. You
child's safety and well-being is our primary concern in a loving
and secure environment.
The
New Horizon Learning Center does not discriminate on the basis of
religion, race, national origin, sex or special needs.

Pastor Cathy Williams became a Preschool Director late in her ministry career as a Christian Educator but she wishes she had done it much sooner. She has worked with all age groups from children to adults, but finds the toddlers to five-year-olds the most amazing age group of all in terms of development and growth. She also gets her “grandma wannabe time” when she goes around the Learning Center to see the children. She is an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church. When she is not at school she likes to golf, travel, knit, read, swim and work out at the gym. Pastor Cathy has a Master’s Degree in Theology and her Director’s Credential and she is very proud of both accomplishments. She is also a N.A.E.Y.C. member.

Miss Rebeca is the Lead Teacher of one of our Three-Year-Old Classes. She can be found in the “Brown Door” Room. She stays young by teaching preschoolers which she has done for 20 years. She loves how they brighten her day and make her laugh. When she is not teaching she likes to read, cook and “hang out” with her husband and family. Credentials: A.S. and C.D.A. Miss Rebeca has been a N.A.E.Y.C member since 1991.
|
|
Miss Linda is one of our VPK Lead Teachers and can be found in the “Yellow Door” Room. She has been teaching at New Horizon for 14 years and organizes our school programs. She feels young children learn best through active play and doing hands-on activities. Her hobbies include Country and Caribbean dancing, music and arts and crafts. Credentials: National C.D.A. and VPK Standards and Literacy.
|
|
Miss Gina is the Outdoor Learning Center (ODLC) Teacher where she incorporates Music and Spanish in the program for all the children of the Learning Center. She is a former Kindergarten teacher who always knew that teaching was her calling in life. When she is not teaching, she loves being with her two daughters and husband, spending time with them and her friends. She likes to work out, run, go to the beach and do yoga. Miss Gina has her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. |
|
Miss “M.J.” (Miss Mojdeh) is the Blue Door Lead Teacher. The Blue Door is for late two’ and early three’s. She knows that young children are “amazing people” who can teach us how to simplify life and live in the moment. Because of her strong background in science, she most likes teaching that subject and is amazed at how easily they can grasp some of the core concepts. When Miss M.J. is not at school she works on her hobby of photography. Miss M.J. has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science and has her Early Childhood training. |
|
Miss Laci is an assistant for many of our teachers. She helps mostly with the youngest of our children, but also helps wherever needed. She says “I like to think of myself as a child magnet. I don’t know why, but children just flock to me…like a magnet.” With her playful and joyful sense, she enjoys every minute of being with children. When she is not at the Learning Center, Miss Laci enjoys doing her photography, singing and babysitting. Miss Laci is working on her Bachelor’s degree in photography. |
|
Miss Miranda is the Lead Teacher for the Purple Door which is our eighteen month room. She loves watching her student’s sweet faces when they learn something new. She is passionate about her “babies” and feels it is a privilege to be their teacher. Miss Miranda is a very loving, caring person whom the children trust easily. She has her Associate’s degree and Early Childhood training.

|
Miss Pam, the Lead Teacher of the Orange Door Three-Year-Old class, feels that it is a blessing to teach children about God. She enjoys teaching young children because they are full of life and love and are so teachable. In her “spare” time, Miss Pam knits, makes jewelry, reads and cooks. Her decorated cakes are beautiful. She also runs the “S.H.A.R.E.” program at the church. She has her B.S. degree and has taught at the Learning Center for twelve years and is a member of N.A.E.Y.C. |
|
|
Miss Dawn is the Lead Teacher of one morning and one afternoon VPK classes. To her, nurturing the mind and spirit of young children is truly an honor and a blessing. She feels fortunate to be a part of the lives of her students during this time of rapid growth and
development. In her VPK classes, she follows the VPK standards which puts a large emphasis on language development and she teaches these through fun and exciting learning experiences. When Miss Dawn is not with her students she likes to read, do crafts and be with friends and family. Miss Dawn has her CDA as well as her Director’s Credential and N.A.E.Y.C. membership. |
|
|
Lyndi Bullen, Two Year Old teacher, Associates Degree in ECE
When Miss Lyndi is not teaching, she enjoys the laughter of her four children, sharing a bowl of popcorn and watching a movie with her husband. She loves to dance, take long walks for exercise and hear good jokes.
Miss Lyndi is passionate about the possibilities of being one who can affect a child’s development, to make impressions that will someday shape their future. She feels that it is the opportunity of a life-time to be a part of making a difference in their lives.. To be a teacher of small children for her is a gift as God reminds us daily of his love through them.
Miss Lyndi has her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and her CDA. |
|
|
Susan Rodriguez, Lead Teacher, Green Door VPK
As a teacher Miss Susan loves to see the changes in her students from the start of the school year to the end.
